Pinterest: To Pin or Not to Pin

So now we come to the world of Pinterest in this week of Social Media Posts. If you missed them, you can always pop over to the Facebook or Twitter blogs and come back for the finisher.

I have to confess, and I hate to step on any toes of people who are obsessed with Pinterest, but this is by far, my least favorite of all the Social Media networks I choose to participate in. Don’t get me wrong, pins are beautiful, magical, and often lead to oodles of fantastic information, all through the window of a picture. I love the whole visual menu of Pinterest and the fact that you can virtually shop yourself a cyber world of your imaginaray wardrobe, dream vacations, and meals that look so perty, but are too much effort to prepare. That would take time, after all. Precious minutes that could be used searching for more pins, re-pinning and commenting on pins you like.

I took the plunge and opened a Pinterest account when I realized that there are some readers out there who would find me and my bloggity blog, if they just had a luring picture to go by. Like a manniquin in a store window, Pinterest often draws people into your world when they see something they like. And the next thing you know, a few more readers are surfing your blog and pushing the pins onto their board, giving even more readers a chance to discover your stories. This has been a fun find.

But then one day, my blog address expired. And my cyber presences literally disappeared. In cyber space. So before I had the courage or sense to buy it back, I made a new one, and then went about the grueling process of changing all my cyber addresses that linked to my blog. And for Pinterest, that was more painful than the time I lost my wallet and had to call the credit card companies. I had to change each pin’s link, one stinking pin at a time. By the time I was done, I wanted to stab someone. A pin would do. Draw a little cyber blood from the guy who did not include a “select all” button on Pinterest. Because if a woman had come up with Pinterest… just sayin.

Anyway, so my Pinterest World helped me to actually get to know myself. As I allocated each Blog post under various boards, I realized that I actually do write about specific topics and not just anything and everything. Topics that are close to my heart are marriage, parenting, basketball, chocolate, and adventures. Especially those involving waterfalls, sunsets and sunrises. So I feel like Pinterest is my Visual Blog Glossary of sorts! And that’s super coolio in my books. Because I’m not naturally organized so pins help me to shuffle and sort and build a Blog that can be navigated in more ways than one.

So, although I’m a little behind in pinning my latest blogs to my Pinterest account, I have to admit, I rarely hang out in the ever-growing colorful world over there. What’s it like? I see folks with thousands upon thousands of pins and elaborate boards and I’m thinking, Wowza! That’s some serious interest in Pinterest! 😉

Hey, it works for some folks. I look forward to the day when my first book gets published. I am already imagining a Pinterest account for my character Talia. What she likes. What she’d wear. What kind of music she listens to. And where she’d want to visit if she didn’t live under a roof with the tyrant dad she’s stuck with. But don’t want to do it prematurely and get peeps all excited about a virtual friend they can meet if she’s not officially breathing yet. Sorta-speak.

**So, what about you? Are you all about Pinterest or have you decided you’re not touching a pin with a ten foot pole, even if a piece of visually appealing dark chocolate hangs from it? Have you discovered some cool uses for Pinterest that I am completely unaware of? Tell the truth, have you ever really cooked any of that beautiful food on your “Best Things to Eat” [with your eyes] Board? 🙂
