Stranger than the Pop in Popcorn

Hubby drops me off at the theater on Saturday to buy tickets while he runs a quick errand. We are 45 mins early, but it’s the weekend, the lines are long, and I need to save several seats for friends who are joining us. Yes. We’re trying to get in another date night since the kids are away. So I make my way up to the counter when my turn finally arrives and buy two tix for Tyler Perry’s new Madea’s Witness Protection movie. We’re big fans. Of both! Oh wait…

Upside-Down Kisses

I’m sitting in Starbucks finishing up some writing when I get a text from hubby a few hours after the girls leave for a week long adventure with their cousins in Delaware.

“Be home by 8:30. It’s a date night! :)”
The cafe latte in my tum-tum does a flip. Yup. This girl still gets giddy when her hubby asks her out. Nothing like being asked when least expected! Continue reading

Brave Enough

Can’t believe I didn’t have a hot dog on the fourth of July?

I guess hot dogs aren’t primarily served at weddings. Unless maybe you get married in Texas.

Anyway, my baby princess played the part of flower girl for the third time in her life. Dress rehearsal was two days before the wedding, and she has been looking forward to this day for months. The shoes! The dress! And don’t forget her star earrings and of course, Mommy just has to curl her hair. But not till the big day. Tonight is just a practice run. We’re not even wearing the shoes tonight.

As I watch Sarah walk down the aisle with her empty basket and pretend to toss petals here and there, two thoughts run through my mind. One regarding the order of the wedding procession, the other simply connected to the event. A rehearsal.

I think to myself, “What if life had a dress rehearsal?” How about for just the tough times? Would we get a chance to practice our lines, revise and rewrite—before family and friends arrive and words cannot be taken back? Continue reading

My Masala Marinated Mother’s Day…

[It’s been awhile since I did a Fortunately, Unfortunately story…so here goes. Enjoy.]

Fortunately, the day before Mother’s Day we left Delaware from Hubby’s brother’s house only half an hour later than scheduled.

Unfortunately, New York traffic caused us to arrive over an hour past our desired time. Where are all these people driving to on a Saturday morning anyway?? Continue reading

My Love-Hate Relationship with Hunger Games

After watching Hunger Games on an IMAX screen last night, I must admit. I love the movies. Nothing like seeing an amazing story come to life on the big screen. And for once, a book translated into the movie did not disappoint. From the dingy details of District Twelve to the neon colors bouncing off the cinema walls when Peeta and Katniss arrive in the Capitol. From the green hues of Gale and Katniss’ beloved forest to the dome of the hunger games. The setting came alive. Just as I had imagined it.
The characters were cast near perfectly. I did imagine Haymitch a little chunkier, but Woody Harrelson’s acted brilliantly. He might be my favorite after last night. Continue reading

The Giants, “Warrior,” and a very Messy Banana Peel

“Who left this banana peel here by the kitchen sink?” Hubby calls out before breakfast.

I’m around the corner, putting the yogurt back into the fridge. Yeah, our refrigerator is not in the kitchen, but that’s a blog for another day.
“I was just about to throw it out.” I say as I emerge from the pantry/shoe room/coat room/fridge housing room.

“You mean you forgot to do it. Don’t say you were going to do something when you actually forgot to do it in the first place.”

These few lines of interchange nearly started World War III last Sunday morning. Wait. That was yesterday. Continue reading

Popcorn, Reese’s Pieces, Cherry Coke…ACTION!

In college, my freshman roommate prayed for me. A lot. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the poster I plastered on my side of the room before I unpacked my suitcase. The words “Every time I think about killing myself, I go to the movies” circled a large cardboard paper covered with hundreds of movie stubs. I saved them all.
And I love it all. From Beauty and the Beast to Bourne Identity, Rocky to Real Steel, Aladdin to Aragorn, Madea to Monsters Inc. [I could go on and on], I can’t get enough of the worlds created by a camera lens and now computer graphics. Needless to say, I love going to the movies. Continue reading
